2026 Kickoff: Ditching Annual Resolutions with Quartely Quests

It’s January 1st, 2026. The usual impulse is to set vague, year-long resolutions that are generally abandoned by February. But this year, I’m trying something different.

I have set a major career milestone for the end of March: I want to take full ownership of our backend API project. This means I need to master Golang and deeply understand our existing architecture within a strict 90-day window, all while prioritizing a new daily health routine.

To manage this, I’m running an experiment using a stripped-down productivity system focused on just three core engines:

1. The Quarterly Quest

Instead of looking at the whole year, I’m only looking at Q1.

2. The Weekly Review

Every Sunday, I will review the previous seven days. Did I actually make progress on the API codebase? Did I stick to the workout plan? By checking in weekly, I can adjust my focus immediately rather than waiting until the end of the quarter to see if I’ve failed.

3. The Morning Manifesto

Before I open Slack or check my inbox, I’m taking two minutes to define my “Adventure” for the day. Whether it’s refactoring a specific Go service or hitting a 20-minute HIIT session, this anchor keeps me focused on what actually moves the needle.

This isn’t about being perfect; it’s about being intentional. The next 90 days are a sprint toward a new level of professional and personal discipline. Let’s see what happens.
